SAVANNAH'S HISTORIC RIVER STREET WALK
Lined with centuries old cotton warehouses along the Savannah River, they have today been converted to elegant inns, fabulous restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, galleries, and more. Rediscovered in the 1970s, you can enjoy walking the 200-year-old cobblestone streets, carefully negotiating the original streetcar rails still embedded in the streets. The first horsecars began operating in 1869, replaced by electric streetcars in 1890, and were discontinued in 1946. Beware, the walk might be less than a mile in length, but you will definitely need a rest stop at one of the numerous pubs populating the river street walk.
